In 2004 I was the only Righteous CMC brother to turn up at the Marconi Club, but I met up with Tiny from Kings Cross Bikers with a group from his club.
When we registered for the ride we had to fill out a form giving our name, address and contact details. For a bit of a joke I filled in the space which said Pillion....with the initials J.C. (praying that Jesus is always my pillion).
Recently I received a letter from the organisers inviting me to attend the 2005 ride, or should I say I received two invites to my home address.....one to me, and the other to J.C.
Peter Duke
There were four of us from the club and a guy on a brand new Goldwing - Nick. Three flew down, Rob, Janos and Peter, we hired a car and drove it like a racing car.
The beach house had it's own private track to the beach. Friday night we played cards.
Saturday morning saw Pete cooking bacon and eggs for breakfast on the BBQ. We went to the race track at 10am and went through the expo, which was quite good. We stayed at the races most of the day, teed up with Richard the Motorcycle Racing Chaplain and took him to an Italian restaurant. We invited him to the beach house and saw a power point presentation. Richard talked about different ideas, presented his history and vision for chaplaincy. We crashed and burned that night.
On Sunday we went to the track. We saw accidents, walked around the outfield, checked out other peoples' bikes. It really was good racing, some impressive get offs right in front of us. After wards we went back to the house and saw Mario off. Pete got to ride the BMW K1200 LT with stereo, bells, whistles and buttons. Smooth as silk, even had heater grips on.
Mario did the cannonball run on the way back. He left at 7am and got home at 4.20pm after getting lost in the city. The boys left on bikes and Pete, Rob and Janos went into Melbourne. If you are going through the airport, don't do up your boots, Rob had to take his off for a security check.
Ducati Peter had leant Pete his bike all weekend. Some nicknames popped up. Gismo - Steve had all the gadgets, GPS, tripod, stereo on a full dresser BMW. Ray - GG (garbage guts) and the nickname Handbrake was coined.
A good time was had by all!
Bathurst, Conrod Straight, Brocky, Bathurst Motorcycle Riots, mad burnout’s, huge crowds, plenty of hoons, esky races down the mountain - world wide coverage.....right? Wrong.
No I’m talking about our Christmas social ride to Nowra, Greenwell Point and return via Kangaroo Valley, Fitzroy Falls and Bankstown.
Leaving the clubhouse we met other members in front of the historic hotel in Picton. With one bike and rider way laid by mechanical problems, we fairly meandered through the Southern Highlands through Mittagong and Bowral till we encountered the open and increasingly windy roads south east of Bowral, descending down through Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley for a quick refreshment break.
Sensible, conservative and meandering, these words go out the window as soon as the twisties start. Competitiveness, skilled, daring, pushing the limits, even fool hardy might be more appropriate.
A swift arrival at Greenwell Point for an excellent fish and chips lunch by the seaside south of Nowra and some old friends met us there as well; excellent! Riding home we had twice the fun. Up hill through the corners; both Peter’s swapped their bikes (Triumph/Ducati). early on we had split into two packs with Peter, Michael and myself lapping the others on the first few corners up the Barrengarry mountain.
Well the impossible does happen. Not the best rider in the club on an 18yr old 883 sporster but I had the time of my life, pushing it to the limit actually beyond the capacity of this old bike, scraping, running out of road, inadequate brakes and suspension all working overtime. Two riders in my mirrors can’t shake them off but they can’t pass me, here comes the top; yep, the top of the mountain.
Chequered flag falls (well in my mind) and first; maybe the other guys were just cutting me some slack, but I now know how it feels to be first over the line when the chequered flag falls. (Racing! who said we were racing?)
After this adrenaline charged ride, Michael Peter and I got well and truly lost around Appin. Arriving last back at the clubhouse to consume the amazing spread awaiting us courtesy of Mario and Scruff and Yvonne.
Char grilled pork, beef and chicken, way to much food and endless salads. This is how summer starts, with our end of year ride and party.
Righteous was invited to join in with this dynamic inner-city ministry to primary school children in the Redfern/Waterloo area. Great rides, big smiles and one more ride please were the words of that morning.
Shorty, Scruf and Mario, who come from wild backgrounds, spoke to these inner city kids about their lives some of whom also come from wild backgrounds, about the difference that Christ makes to your life and how a life of petty crime is a dead end. We followed up with rides around the carpark and a BBQ lunch.
To cap it all off we gave the children going home in the old church bus an escort. The excited children yahooing and gesturing out of the windows of the bus, with a motorcycle escort winding it’s way through the housing commission areas of Redfern and Waterloo was a real sight.
Even for some of the leaders it was a first with rides and a different approach to the blessing of God to these needy children.
We planned to leave
To Roberts’ credit he met us on the expressway at
10 hours later we were at Nerang QLD at “Gold Coast Bike Week” after setting up our tents and getting sorted we made our way around the huge site. My first impression was that we were in for one great time, bikes everywhere and of all makes.
What a perfect spring day. 25 degrees in the city, 30 degrees in the west and 15 at Katoomba.
Three of us met the Kings Cross Bikers at McDonalds M4West, slow to get going but eventually out on the road with about 20 bikes and off to Medlow Bath.
This run is to celebrate Animal (president of the Kings Cross Bikers) receiving his OAM from the G.G. last week at a ceremony at Hurstville.
Arriving at the historic hotel at Medlow Bath we were well received (not by the management but) by the tourists, busloads of Japanese schoolgirls.
A great meal, small talk and lots of photo's on the balcony overlooking the Jamieson Valley. Off to the Three Sisters for more photo's and we were the stars. Tourists wanted their photo's taken with the bikers (again). We did take some of our own photo's and Animal was certainly the star attraction with some of the tourists. The scenery was breathtaking as it always is in the Blue Mountains, and we had a great ride home. Eventful, fun, good times, no accidents and no fines, just what we want.
What can God do with two people? Not much you say, well we prayed and were anticipating what God would do! Leaving the clubhouse and riding out to the youth centre was a normal spring night in
We were welcomed with open arms, Peter and I were unable to process all the food we were presented with. Generous!
Peter entertained some of the youth, with games and we really didn’t have a lot to do except to mingle.
The Pastor was so excited that we had come, organising a large youth rally for the whole church with us to take part in it, something to look forward to. Watch this space.

What a turn out is was. Fathers day with clouds threatening and hail later in the day. We all made it there and home dry. Arriving, we were surprised to be greeted by not just CMA members but Ambassadors and Godsquad members as well, fantastic. People had ridden from as far away as Emu Plains, Thirlmere and Nowra. That's Awesome! To ride that far with threatening clouds on Fathers Day and maybe at most give some rides for some of the congregation. There are some really servant hearted Christians out there.
There was a great breakfast, for all of us as well as all the Church (around 350 people). Hot brewed coffee, bacon, eggs and hash browns, strawberries and cream. This church spared no expense for a good spread.
There was an excellent time of worship and followed by a dance item by the children followed by an overview of God's Squad's work by Neil Jansons. Wayne followed this up by an amazing overview of CMA's work and his testimony which was riveting. I was able to conclude with a small word on grace and the Fatherhood of God which tied in with Wayne's testimony.
As soon as the Pastor concluded the service there was a bee line for rides on the bikes and more fellowship and coffee. A great day, I think a first as the different Christian Clubs and CMA worked together to bring a blessing to the Church, unity and blessing.
